Conservation Commission
Conservation Commission Mission Statement:
The Conservation Commission (Commission) first established in 1959, is responsible for the protection of land, water, and biological resources within the Town of Sharon. The Commission is made up of seven (7) volunteers who work to achieve community conservation and preservation goals. The Commission has jurisdictional authority over any activities likely to have a significant or cumulative effect upon wetland and waterway values, including but not limited to, public or private water supply, groundwater, flood control, water pollution, erosion and sedimentation control, storm damage prevention, fisheries, shell fish, wildlife habitat, recreation, aesthetics, and agricultural values, collectively.
The Conservation Department coordinates the efforts of the Commission whose purpose is to administer the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act, M.G.L. c. 131, § 40 and the Town of Sharon Wetlands Bylaw, and related regulations. Programs of the department not only include wetland protection but land management and land acquisition. General direction and instruction as to how the wetland bylaw and regulations apply to individual property owners, as well as site visits and enforcement capabilities, are available through the Conservation Department by email or telephone.
