Meet Town of Sharon Benefits Administrator Alyssa Orifice

When new employees start work for the Town of Sharon, Benefits Administrator Alyssa Orifice is one of the first people they may meet.

“When any new employees come in, I am the person you go to in order to enroll in benefits,” Alyssa said.

Alyssa manages benefits for current town employees. But when it comes to retirees, she serves both the town and school departments.

“I love our retirees,” she said. “Because they come in and they just want to talk to you about their time at the town and how great it has been and they are always very, very grateful for any information that you give them.”

Alyssa is also constantly in contact with the vendors such as health insurance companies to help employees and retirees with questions or problems such as a discrepancy in billing.

She explores new benefits the town may want to add and provides information to employees on what is available to them.

Alyssa joined the Town of Sharon in November after working as a human resources coordinator for a nonprofit, the Price Center in Newton.

Her new job in Sharon is more benefits focused.

“I always wanted to be in benefits,” she said.

Alyssa said it has been a transition going from a private nonprofit to a municipality because the regulations are quite different.

Alyssa has a bachelor’s of business administration from UMass Lowell and is pursuing a master’s degree in human resources from Framingham State University.

A Needham resident, she enjoys reading and crocheting.

Alyssa also reminds town employees to watch for information about open enrollment, a time when they can make charges to their benefits selection. Notices should start going out in the spring.

“If you have questions about benefits in general,” Alyssa said. “I’d be happy to sit down and talk with you.”
