Hydrant Flushing Program begins March 11

Hydrant Flushing Notice

The Town of Sharon will be continuing an ongoing hydrant flushing program beginning Monday March 11, 2024, and running through Friday June 14, 2024, weather permitting.

The work will be scheduled Mondays through Fridays between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 a.m.

There will be some discoloration of water while this program is in process.

This program is being carried out to maintain the water quality in Sharon.

In case of rusty water do not run your water while work is in progress.

To clean your service, wait about two hours after Water Division crews have left your area then run cold water from the faucet nearest your water meter. The two-hour wait allows any rusty water stirred up by the flushing to settle.

As a precaution, you should check your water for discoloration prior to doing any laundry. However, should you have laundry stained by rusty water, wait until the water returns to normal and wash the load again with your regular soap, weak bleach and four ounces of cream of tartar. This should clean the laundry.

A special rust removing detergent, Iron Out, is available upon request at the Sharon DPW at no charge to those who have accidentally washed a load and have stained clothes.

For more information including which sections of the town the Water Division is flushing, visit the Town of Sharon Water Division webpage at www.townofsharon.net/water-division/pages/2024-hydrant-flushing-information. This will be updated daily.
