Hand sanitizers for caregivers

My name is Paul Remy and I am the Chairperson of the Sharon Commission on Disability.  Saturday night I read a post on what’s Up Sharon from a mother who has a child with a disability. The mother stated that she is unable to purchase hand sanitizers and cannot find the ingredients to make her own. She wants to give the sanitizers to caregivers who are taking care of her child to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus. I send the mother’s concerns to Town Nurse Sheila Miller.

According to Miller, “the Governor has allowed pharmacists to make hand sanitizers. If someone makes their own and wants to give it to someone, that is their business.” She added, “I am always leery of homemade products that do not have any oversight. There could be allergic reactions or bacterial infection due to contamination.”

Miller also stated that “people to contact the fire department if they have any needs or issues.  In addition, the fire department will not deny anyone services or transport to a hospital because of this COVID-19 virus. Soap and water is really the best way to prevent the spread.”

Caring caregivers are making possible for many, inc1uding myself, with disabilities to be able to live independently in their own homes. All of us need to wash our hands so we can conquer the spread of the Coronavirus. And when we do, we will regain our freedom and enjoy our lives with our friends again.vv
