MOSQUITO-BORNE DISEASES

NORFOLK COUNT MOSQUITO CONTROL DISTRICT COMMISSION

The Norfolk County Mosquito Control District Commission provides mosquito control services for the Town of Sharon and 24 other Norfolk County municipalities. These services, including springtime larviciding to reduce populations of adult mosquitos, and pesticide application to reduce adult mosquitos in response to disease threats, are provided observing best practices regarding mosquito control, public health, and environmental safety. Information on the NCMCDC including information regarding mosquito control measures in Sharon may be found at http://www.norfolkcountymosquito.org/. Services are based on evaluations of mosquito control needs for each town, and financed through assessments of each participating municipality.

The Norfolk County Mosquito Control District will be conducting helicopter applications of the biorational larvicide Bti (Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis) to control mosquito larvae.  These applications will be conducted over specific large wetlands in the Towns of Sharon.

These applications will be conducted for 2 to 3 days; anytime between April 26 through May 2, 2021, from dawn until dusk.  If the application cannot be completed by then, the application will continue beyond these dates.  For this reason, the Project cannot pin down these dates with any more accuracy.  If there is a need to change these dates due to inclement weather, the Project will attempt via fax or phone call to inform you of these changes.

The trade name of the granular formulation of Bti to be used is VectoBac GR (EPA Reg. #73049-486) & VectoBac GS (EPA Reg. #73049-10).  This is not a “spray”. For further information contact David A. Lawson, Director at (781) 762-3681 or the Boards of Health in the towns listed above.  Information is also available on line at www.norfolkcountymosquito.org
