Helping Sharon residents with disabilities during the Coronavirus pandemic

The Sharon Commission on Disabilities realizes people with disabilities and senior citizens, are experiencing a difficult time during the Coronavirus pandemic. Commission members have been reaching out to local organizations and departments, such as the Police and Fire Departments, to determine if they can assist them in helping the disabled community in Sharon.

The Sharon Fire Department is accepting a donation. Fire Chief Wright noted it is also essential for his department to hear from people with disabilities stating their specific needs. “From there we can develop volunteer groups and resources to meet (their needs),” he stated. Call the Fire Department at (781) 784-1522 if you need assistance.

“My officers are prepared to pick up prescriptions, groceries or to check in on anyone in need,” stated Police Chief Ford. His Department is also calling Sharon residents with disabilities and senior citizens, to determine if they need help. Call the Police Department at (781) 784-1587 if you want to be put on the call list or need assistance.

The Adult Center and HESSCO are still delivering meals. If you cannot go grocery shopping during this difficult time, you can call the Adult Center at (781) 784-8000 or HESSCO at (781) 784-4944 for home meal delivery.

If you have flu-like symptoms, contact your primary care physician. Many are giving assistance via teleconference or the phone. There are numerous testing sites, as of now most require a physician order for the test. Many Urgent Care facilities also have testing. Additionally for drive-thru testing you can go to  https://www.cvs.com/minuteclinic/covid-19-testing to determine if you are eligible for Covid-19 testing. The site is user friendly. Tell your family members and/or caregivers to go on this site if they also have symptoms. If you and/or family members/caregivers are advised to go for testing,   the website allows you or them to schedule an appointment to take the test. Currently, testing is being done at  CVS drive-thru in Lowell, Massachusetts. CVS will call you by phone in about 30 minutes to let you know your test results.
