Application Process & Eligibility

Application Process:

To apply for housing, an individual or family must complete an application which is then processed by the Authority. Once an applicant is approved, the applicant's name is placed on the waiting list. Applications are available in person or by calling the Sharon Housing Authority.

Eligibility Requirements:

State-Aided Low Rent Housing for Elderly and Handicapped Eligibility Requirements:

All apartments are one bedroom

  1. To qualify as elderly, an applicant must be 60 years of age or older or meet the eligibility requirements as a handicapped person. (Single individuals or couples are eligible). Copy of a birth certificate for each household member must accompany application.
  2. Otherwise, eligible applicants under 60 years of age may apply for the Alternative Housing Voucher Program (AHVP). 
  3. If you are a Sharon resident, please provide proof of residence. Acceptable means of verification must show your current address, such as: drivers license, car registration, utility bill.
  4. If applicable, please have doctor verify in writing, whether applicant requires wheelchair accessibility or is unable to climb stairs and must have a first floor apartment.
  5. The annual net income of a single individual must not exceed $47,450 and the annual net income of a couple must not exceed $54,200. Income includes: earned wages, pension, social security, interest, dividends and income of any kind from real or personal property. Income shall be imputed to assets in the manner provided by 24 CFR 813 and 913 and such imputed income shall be included in household income.

State-Aided Low Rent Family Housing Eligibility Requirements:

  1. All six apartments at 2l S. Pleasant Street are two bedroom, therefore, a family must consist of two to four members.
  2. If you are a Sharon resident, please provide proof of residence. Acceptable means of verification must show your current address, such as: drivers license, car registration, utility bill.
  3. Annual net income must not exceed $54,200 for a two-member household, $61,000 for a three-member household and $67,750 for a four-member household. Income includes: earned wages, pension, social security, interest, dividends and income of any kind from real or personal property. Income shall be imputed to assets in the manner provided by 24 CFR 813 and 913 and such imputed income shall be included in household income.
