Renewal
A library user may renew any item either in person, by telephone, or online through the library catalog. All items may be renewed as stated above unless the item is on reserve for another library user. When renewing overdue items, an overdue fine will be assessed on each item renewed equal to the per diem fine times the number of days overdue up to the renewal day.
Overdue Fines
10¢ per day per item up to a maximum of $5 per item except as follows:
rental books: 50¢ per day per item with no maximum fine
museum passes: $5 per day per pass with no maximum fine
Items assessed at 10¢ per day have a 3-day grace period. If an item is returned within 3 days of its due date no overdue fine will be assessed even though the overdue fine is accruing. For example, items returned on the 4th day or later of being overdue will be assessed the accrued fine of 40¢ per item plus 10¢ per day per item thereafter.
An overdue notice is mailed to the library user when an item is 21 days overdue. A second overdue notice is mailed after an additional 21 days.
A bill for the replacement cost of a non-returned item is mailed to the library user when an item is 180 days overdue.
A library user owing more than $10 in fines and fees shall have his/her borrowing privileges suspended.
(The director or his/her designee has the discretion to extend or alter the loan period of library materials and/or alter fines/fees assessed based upon hardship cases and/or other special circumstances.)
Printing Fees
Library users wishing to print information from any library computer workstation or receiving FAXed or photocopied pages through interlibrary loan shall be required to pay at the circulation desk a fee of 5¢ per page printed/copied.
Approved by Sharon Public Library Board of Trustees, June 9, 1998. Revised August 18, 1999.
