FIRE CODE - MULTI-FAMILY OCCUPANCIES
SECTION 1. Definitions
The terms defined in this section shall have the meaning indicated and shall apply to all sections of this Article.
Multi-Family Occupancy - means a building or portion thereof containing more than two dwelling units, including tenement house and apartment house.
Dwelling Unit - means one or more rooms arranged for the use of one or more individuals living together as a single housekeeping unit, with cooking, living, sanitary and sleeping facilities.
Approved - means accepted by the Chief of the Fire Department as a result of his investigation and experience or by reason of test, listing or approval by the Underwriter's Laboratories, Inc., the Factory Mutual Research Corporation, the American Gas Association Laboratories or other nationally recognized testing agencies.
Alteration - means change in or addition to a building which reduces the means of exit or fire resistances or changes its structural use or occupancy.
Premise/Premises - means any building or structure or any alley or way adjacent thereto.
SECTION 2. Fire Detection System
Effective the date of adoption of this Fire Code by the Town of Sharon any alteration of an existing building with the intent of multi-family occupancy or any new construction of multi-family dwellings shall be equipped with an approved fire detection system. Included in this requirement are Use Group L-1 and L-2 (Section 210.1 of the Town of Sharon Building Code).
SECTION 3. Penalties
Any person who knowingly violates any Article or Section of this Fire Code shall be punished be a fine of not less than the amount permitted by law.
